How much alcohol should you provide for your wedding day?

When planning your wedding you probably have a favourite tipple in mind or know exactly what drinks you want to be served, if you’re a wine connoisseur you may already have your favourite Bordeaux lined up but how on earth are you supposed to know how much everyone will drink? Luckily for you, we are here to help! We have created a handy list below of our recommended drink requirements.

Your drinks for the day are usually split up into 3 sections, The reception (post ceremony), The wedding breakfast and the evening bar.

On average your guests will have between 2-3 drinks for the reception. This could be two glasses of fizz and perhaps a soft drink. For the wedding breakfast, think about what wines you would like served at the tables, red, white, rose or maybe all three and don’t forget about the toasts.

For the evening bar, first factor in how long this will be open. On average your guests will have two drinks in the first hour and 1 drink per hour thereafter.

Please see below for our drink recommendations:

  • Champagne/ Prosecco - 1 bottle per 6 guests (toasts only)

  • Beer - 5 bottles/cans per person

  • Wine - 1 bottle per 2.5 guests

  • Spirits - 1 bottle per 5 guests (based on a 3-hour open bar)

  • Pimms - 1L bottle per 20 servings

  • Lemonade - 6 x 2L bottles per bottle of Pimm’s

Of course, you know your guests better than us, why else would they be invited to the wedding! If a large majority of your guests are big beer drinkers for example, then please factor this in.

Our recommendations are a guide only, keep in mind your guest count, length of wedding and guests drink preferences.
